The high school in Pirdop

Founded in 1915.

The high school in Pirdop is an heir of the educational traditions of the Bulgarian national revival. Traditions laid by the teacher Todor Pirdopski, Kesarii pop Vasilev, Todor Hrulev, Zlatan Gruev (the future bishop Serafim in Sliven), Alexander Gruev, Alipiya Vlaykov, etc.

There had been two boys’ and one girls’ school before the Bulgarian Liberation. The Minister of education later united them into a secondary school by a decree No 3527 from 1st September, 1915.

During its almost one hundred year history, it changed its name and status many times: Incomplete mixed school, Real high school, First high school, Mixed secondary school, Polytechnic high school, Secondary school. There were lots of places where the school was housed: in the convent, in “St. Kiril and St. Metodii” school (completely destroyed together with its archive in a fire), in 1932 –in the newly built school-monument (the present “Todor Vlaykov”), since 1961/1962 school year, it has stayed in the present building, specially designed for the purpose.

It was named after Pirdop’s teacher and artist, Savo Savov in1950.

The Ministry of education and the Bulgarian teachers’ union announced the school twice The Best School of 1970/1971 and 1972/1973 school years. The school was given the name “Model School” in 1974/75 school year. The Minister of education, Ilcho Dimitrov, turned the school into a Secondary school in 1994/95 school year.

Since 1999 – 2000 school year there have been admited classes with intensive English language learning and 2003 – 2004 school year started with a profile “Information technologies”. The profile “Information Technology with intensive English learning” (at the end of 7th grade) was started in 2005/2006, as well as profile “Arts – Computer Animation with intensive learning of a foreign language”. Through the school 2016-2017 was introduced the рrofile “Computer Graph” in which  the current eighth graders are training.

Students are the greatest pride of “Savo Savov” Secondary School. Today, they are part not only of the town’s elite but also the country’s one in the spheres of economics, health care, education, culture, politics……
